About Joshua

Joshua Broadbent is an Australian theatre producer and practitioner whose career spans more than a decade across stage management and production. A graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (Bachelor of Dramatic Art – Production, 2015), he began his career working across major commercial musicals, national tours and independent theatre productions throughout Australia.

Joshua’s love of theatre began in community theatre in Newcastle, where he spent weekends immersed backstage at Young People’s Theatre. From acting and lighting to sound, stage management and technical coordination, he was eager to experience every part of the theatre-making process. Those early experiences sparked not only a passion for live performance, but a deep appreciation for the collaboration and community that sit at the heart of the industry.

That early passion for theatre led Joshua into a career spanning major commercial musicals, national tours and independent productions throughout Australia. His stage management credits include national tours of The Wizard of Oz and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Gordon Frost Organisation), Evita (Gordon Frost Organisation/Opera Australia), Come From Away (NewTheatricals), and Once (Darlinghurst Theatre Company). In Sydney, he has worked across productions including Matilda the Musical (Louise Withers & Associates), 9 to 5 The Musical (Crossroads Live), Darkness (NewTheatricals), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Victorian Opera).

Joshua is now Associate Producer at Opera Australia, working across major national tours, outdoor spectaculars, concerts and gala events. His recent projects include Guys & Dolls (Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour), La Bohème (National Tour 2024–25), BMW Opera for All at Melbourne’s Fed Square, Opera Up Late, and the New Year’s Eve Opera Gala at the Sydney Opera House.

Upcoming projects include Don Giovanni (National Tour 2026–27), Opera Australia’s 70th Anniversary Gala, and a Gilbert & Sullivan: a musical celebration.

Alongside his producing work, Joshua is the creator and host of Whispers in the Wings, a podcast that brings audiences behind the scenes of the theatrical world through conversations with industry professionals.
